School Readiness Assessments
Preparing for the First Big Step

Determining if your child is ready for the learning demands of formal schooling.

Young children develop rapidly, but the pace differs between individuals. It is crucial to determine if a child's developmental progression is at the rate expected for their age and if they can cope with the transition to Grade 1.

It is recommended that school readiness assessments are conducted during the Grade R year, typically around the age of 6. This evaluation provides a clear picture of your child's cognitive, social, and emotional standing.

Assessment Components

We evaluate four key areas to ensure a smooth transition to formal education.

Cognitive Readiness

Assessing the child's ability to pay attention, complete simple tasks, trace basic shapes, and understand cause and effect.

Social Readiness

Evaluating social integration, the willingness to share, and the ability to engage meaningfully with a group of peers.

Emotional Readiness

Looking at self-confidence, the ability to ask questions, and the child's capacity to disengage confidently from parents.

Perceptual Readiness

Checking the normal development of auditory and visual perception skills necessary for early literacy and numeracy.

Self-Concept

Identifying if the child has a positive self-concept, which is a vital attribute for successful classroom interaction.

Timing

Assessments are ideally scheduled during Grade R to allow time for intervention if specific developmental gaps are identified.
